The Republic of Moldova was recently awarded with a multitude of prizes and medals, marking the resounding triumph of Moldovan wines at the prestigious 21st edition of the International Wine Competition “Città del Vino.” This remarkable achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of Moldova’s winemakers in producing exceptional wines that have garnered international acclaim.
Participating for the first time in the renowned International Oenological Challenge “Città De Vino” competition, Moldovan wines secured an impressive 17 gold medals, including 3 distinguished large gold medals. The participation in this specialized competition was made possible by the National Office of Wine and Vine from Moldova, with support from the USAID’s Rural Competitiveness and Resilience in Moldova Project.
The prestigious grand award ceremony took place at the beautiful Campidoglio. Several esteemed guests attended, including Francesco Lollobrigida, the Italian Minister of Agriculture, Roberto Gualtieri, the Mayor of Rome, and representatives from the Republic of Moldova, including Mr. Vadim Moțarschi, the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Italy.
Is worth mentioning that the Fautor Winery received special recognition from “Iter Vitis” for their outstanding achievements. Also, other wineries from Moldova like: Criova Winery, Chateau Vartely, Purcari Winery, Asconi Winery and Timbrus Winery recieved 7 gold medals, including the exclusive 3 “Grand Gold” medals.
The remarkable success of Moldovan wines in this competition fills us with great pride. It underscores the relentless efforts of the wine industry in producing top-quality wines. These achievements are a testament to Moldova’s dedication to gaining international recognition and establishing itself as a prominent representative of the country. Vadim Moțarschi, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Rome, emphasized this commitment during the event.
Participating in this competition, Moldovan wines aimed not only to increase the exchange of knowledge and technology with Italian producers but also to align with European market trends and promote wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). Furthermore, the event provided an excellent platform to showcase Moldova’s wine tourism potential. Elizaveta Breahnă, the acting director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, highlighted the significance of this participation as a means to promote Moldova’s unique wines and connect with discerning wine enthusiasts.
In the first half of 2023, Moldovan wineries excelled in 14 international competitions, winning an impressive 268 gold medals and 177 silver medals. These achievements are an important part of the marketing strategy for the renowned national wine brand, “Moldovan Wine. A Living Legend.”
